The Short Version
KOMPUTA is the personal tech outlet of John Kattenhorn — a software engineer and technology leader who can't stop building things.
The Longer Version
By day, I work at C-level in technology — architecture, strategy, delivery. By night (and weekends, and lunch breaks), I'm elbow-deep in side projects that span an absurd range:
- Retro Computing — Writing 6502 assembly for 1980s home computers, because modern hardware is too easy. Currently obsessed with the Oric Atmos and Amstrad CPC.
- Digital Manufacturing — CNC machining, FDM and SLS 3D printing, 3D scanning. If it turns a digital file into a physical object (or vice versa), I'm interested.
- Mechatronics — Where software meets hardware meets moving parts.
- IoT — Connecting things that probably didn't ask to be connected.
- AI & Cloud — My professional roots are in Microsoft and Azure. The current AI wave is the most exciting thing to happen in tech since I started.
The thread that connects all of this is the same thing that got me into computers as a kid: the joy of making something work. Whether it's coaxing a fractal out of a 1 MHz processor or orchestrating cloud infrastructure at scale, it's the same feeling.
About KOMPUTA
This site is where I write about the things I build and the things I learn. No paywalls, no sponsored content, no SEO-optimised listicles. Just an engineer writing about what he finds interesting.
Coder by trade. Curious by nature. Maker by choice.
